Love....love....love.... many splendor things ....

Well, let's talk about love...a topic that has many facets.  If you will pose a question of how love should be defined, you will surely get countless answers.  It will certainly spark different reactions from different people depending on their experiences.    This is because LOVE is simply an important thing in all of our lives.  And I am speaking of all kinds of love, not just the romantic kind.  Though, I'm sure that you would be most interested on the romantic type of love, so that's where I'll focus my blog now .. hehehe.

On the sideline, I love it when it's quiet because I can think things better.  So many thoughts keep playing in my mind.  My hand is not quick enough to jot it down.  And I'm afraid if I can't put it in writing, it will be gone and that I can't recapture it the way it originally crosses my mind.

Okay, so let's start by defining what love is.  Surely for many of you, love is viewed as needing to be with someone in order to give meaning to each day, a desire to be a part of someone’s life, or an intense longing to share each other’s hopes and dreams, etc.  These are all true, but for me, love is simply a strong feeling of affection that surpasses the level of infatuation. Hence, it can be controlled depending on the person's self discipline and level of maturity.  We must not permit emotion to cloud our intelligence and judgment.  For love can be both viewed based on its positive and negative effects on one's emotional equilibrium.  Let's all bear in mind that our ability to love is why we suffer depression when we lose someone or something we value.  That's why we have to be very careful in dealing with our feelings.  Though, I humbly recognize that life without love is like a song without a melody.  If you will not listen to your life's melody, you are actually betraying your heart.  Supposedly love is there to makes us enjoy life.

However, the route to love is sometimes smooth and sometimes rough.  For love is said to be like a flower that can take months to blossom.  Though it can also be like a bolt of lightning that can strike you instantly.  There are times, one doesn't need 20 dates to know how he/she feel towards somebody.

Let's reminisce times of being in love ... of course, when one is in love, there have been moments when a yearning for the one we love surfaces, seeing his smile or merely hearing his voice lifted up our moods and causes us to be happy.  But the desire to see our loved one oftentimes blinds us to reason.  For love can cause us to see things as we prefer them, or as we want them to be. This is why some say that love is blind.  Be it as it may, I believe that it is supposed to be an acceptance and appreciation of a person’s individuality and not an attempt to suffocate it.  We should love people in spite of what they are, not because of what they are.  Genuine love is being able to look at a person and see their faults and their problems and still love them.  At least, that’s the way it should be.  Of course, at first, it is physical attributes that captures our attention but it's actually the personality that seizes our heart, right?

Maybe some of us experienced a case of unrequited love, one-sided, so to speak.  Unrequited because of several reasons.  It can be because the one you love clearly don't have feelings for you ... or ... he's not free to love you back, despite feeling something special for you.  For both it's an ouch! A very big OUCH! Right?  With these situations the best way to show your love is just to let go.  I should say that for both cases, the prices you'll pay will surely be high enough.  In the first case, being in love with someone who doesn’t care in return is most unsatisfactory, not to mention painful and very impractical in the long run.  Though for some who had vowed to love forever despite being unloved in return, well, you may stay and be a martyr, but remember, love can never be forced.  For me, I won't definitely insist myself to someone who obviously don't want or need me in his life.  I think in this case, there's nothing left to do but to try very hard not to care, no matter how much you do.  Because you have to accept that you can mean nothing to someone who means so much to you.  It’s not an issue of pride; it’s simply called self respect.

On the other hand, on the second case, I think this is much harder, for you have to accept the fact that friends are all you ever could be.  Suppressing each other's feelings is not that easy to handle.  It such a pity...sad to say it's very unfortunate.  Like a battle that’s lost before it starts, love has ended before it begun, ha-ha!  It would just be a distant future that died long before it has a chance to live... He will just be a dream that you once knew, a twisted illusion, and will remain as is till love fades away and form part of a distant fantasy.  Though if it's worth remembering it can always be seized back by a touch of a memory, right? Hehehe....

Well, (sigh) ... in any case, after all is considered, falling in love isn’t a mistake.  So long as you don't fall for the wrong person.  Ouch again, but sometimes I wonder, why do we always want the one we never could have?  Well, there isn’t any logic in loving someone, only feelings… and with that; we cannot dictate our hearts on whom to love.  Love can never be designed.  But as magical as it seems to be, one should be very cautious and should try very hard to come to his/her senses.  For one couldn’t take love back and lock it away for convenience’s sake.

A friend once told me that everybody deserves to be loved, yeah, I do agree, he's right, but it's really hard to entrust your heart again to somebody else.  For when you open up yourself to love, you'll be vulnerable to pain and heartache.  Love can always shatter a heart so easily.  Isn't love supposed not to hurt?  Yes, but I strongly believe that loving is always coupled with pain.  A pain that is incomprehensible at times.  However, still, that pain does lessen and eventually passes.

In contrast, love has such tremendous healing power.  Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around especially if it comes from the person we love most.

As difficult as the journey to love is, it is said that no one can outrun love.  There is no one swift enough to escape those intangible feelings.  It will reach across the distance to touch and torment.  For love isn't supposed to be chased.  It should be felt unexpectedly with its own volition.  In totality, still loving is a fantastic thing.   It is in no way a waste of one's time, effort, struggles, sacrifice and self.  And even if things may not work the way we want it to be, we forever know and should believe that love works all the time.  I might say just don't give up on love.

As time passes by, there are these changes in one's life that come in.  Even supposing we may say we don’t believe in love anymore, who knows we will somehow find ourselves taking chances and falling in love again.  Maybe it's worth to take a leap of faith with somebody.  We will never know until we try to understand that maybe love is just around the bend waiting to strike by this time at the right moment with the right person.  Maybe the best is yet to come...
